A devoted MS Windows user gives up all his Windows machines to explore Ubuntu 6.1 Linux for 30 days. If I can't figure out how to do it with Linux I just won't do it. (This was from Nov 1 to Dec 1, 2006, I have continued to use Ubuntu beyond those 30 days and now will try to post how-to's, help, and other Linux (Ubuntu) thoughts here)

Ubuntu 12.04 Installed
I've upgraded from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04. The only problem I ran into was Skype caused the upgrade to stop and I had to remove it before I continued. Since Microsoft acquired Skype I guess I won't miss it much. Everything I've read says that Unity got several improvements. We'll see.

Installed but not played with it much. I tend to use it mostly to surf and for media. I was using Gnome 3 and not Unity but decided to give Unity another try and it appears to behave somewhat better but again I don't get too hardcore with it much...I guess not enough time?
Glad to see you are keeping up with Linux and have not given up. I *may* end up going to just one Windows box in the house and go full Linux for all the other ones. Deb will not go Linux but at least I can.
I think what really turned me off on Unity was the way Canonical forced it on me and the fact that it wasn't ready when they did that. It's not bad now and it's growing on me. I was using a Launcher Bar since Ubuntu 8.x so I actually like launchers and the Unity Launcher is usable but needs more customization options.
One Unity thing that I don't like is the way it minimizes apps to the launcher. If you use multiple apps and share data between them this becomes annoying. Often I have a text editor up and running while I research stuff on the web using it as a notebook, copying and pasting to it. I'd like to get my bottom panel back so that I can easily switch between apps.
If you notice most of the tips I've posted since Unity was Forced on us are interface tweaks. I recommend that you just spend some time poking around the Unity interface and you will get to a point where you at lest don't hate it. :-)
